Hello from the State Capitol,
As you’ve likely heard, Governor Dayton sat down with House and Senate leaders this week to discuss budget issues. Our House/Senate conference committees finished their work and we remain well ahead of schedule. Leadership had prioritized finishing our budget bills early to ensure plenty of time to reach a final agreement with the governor, and we’ve certainly done that.
Creating three-way targets is now the goal and I’m hopeful the governor is prepared to come to the table willing to compromise – as we are – and establish budget targets so we can finish our work.
This past week, I was able to take part in a number of events throughout the district. I met with Afton Mayor Richard Bend to check out a major infrastructure project in Afton’s Old Village. It’s worth reminding everyone that even though the roads may be torn up the businesses remain open.
I also joined a number of volunteers in Cottage Grove to plant more than 400 trees in Highlands Park on Arbor Day.
I also took part in the Hastings Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll sale. Proceeds help people with special needs, including Minnesota Special Olympics, Hastings High School Special Education, Lifeworks, and Pro-Act. My thanks to everyone for their generosity!
Have a good weekend,
Representative Tony Jurgens
